“A nurse is one with smiles to share, patience to care, and love to spare.”

As a future nurse, I believe nursing is the most rewarding profession in the world.

Although it has its ups and downs, the ups outweigh the downs.

There is no greater reward than assisting a patient to heal or recover from their illness

…to see a bedridden patient conquer his or her battle and walk out the hospital doors

…to assist in the miracle of the birth of a child

…to help the homeless

…to advocate for those who were abused.

Nursing provides me with the opportunity to serve others, to be a

caregiver by choice and to make sure that

people hear my voice- to advocate.

Making the choice to serve others requires that I must put others before myself.

Yet in order to put others before myself,

I must take care of myself and practice daily self-awareness.

Nurses deal with a diverse population- different ages, genders, sizes, races, and cultures

It is the nature of the nurse to remain nonjudgmental, to accept those they care for as who they are,

not what they want them to be.

It is the responsibility of the nurse to advocate on behalf of the patient

… to teach those who need to be taught

…to provide support for those who need help

…to promote health

…to prevent disease.

A nurse soothes the aching of human pain and serves those faithfully with little gain.

A nurse is caring, passionate, patient, flexible,

nonjudgmental, and willing to make sacrifices.

A nurse is accountable, reliable, honest, knowledgeable, and responsible.

A nurse does as little as provide a patient with a pitcher of water,

or as much as save a life by providing chest compressions in a life or death situation.

It is my utmost priority to always put the patient first and to provide safe,

competent care to all those who come into my life.

I will measure my success by the quality of care that I provide.

I will be there.
